Durante la investidura de Biden, Brendan Smialowski tomó una fotografía del senador de Vermont y excandidato presidencial Bernie Sanders. En ella se ve a Sanders sentado en una silla llevando ropa de invierno, mascarilla y un par de guantes grandes tipo manopla (hechos por una maestra de la escuela primaria de Vermont, Jen Ellis). La fotografía no tardó en volverse viral.
Como resultado del meme, Ellis recibió miles de pedidos de guantes, lo que provocó que se agotaran. También colaboró con Darn Tough Socks y juntos produjeron una gama de calcetines del mismo patrón que las manoplas, cuyas ganancias se destinaron al bancos de alimentos en Vermont.
Por su lado, Sanders respondió bien al meme y decidió usar la fotografía viral para vender merchandising con fines benéficos.
